When teams work in multiple languages in Q.wiki, automatic translation helps make knowledge quickly accessible. However, how well translations work in practice also depends on how you name, structure, and present content. Even small adjustments can significantly improve translation quality.
This article is intended for all users who create or maintain content in Q.wiki.
Page Titles and Naming
- Use actively formulated page titles instead of single words. Titles with multiple words provide more context than individual terms – for example, "Conducting an online presentation" instead of just "Presentation".
- Name files and attachments as naturally as possible. Avoid underscores and file extensions in the title – for example, "Supplier evaluation protocol" instead of "Suppliers_Protocol.pdf".
- Use terms consistently throughout. Uniform terminology improves readability and translation quality.
- Mark language versions consistently with clear abbreviations like [GER], [ENG], or [FR] instead of DE, EN, or FR.
Formatting and Linking
- Link or format entire terms, sentence parts, or list items as much as possible. If only individual words within a sentence are linked or highlighted, the context can be lost during translation.
- Structure content clearly and logically. Short sections, clear headings, and lists help you make content easier to understand and more translatable.
Images and Attachments
Important: Embedded images (e.g., process maps) and attachments/file pages are currently not automatically translated.
- Do not place important information exclusively in images. Use separate language versions or bilingual captions as needed.
- Do not rely solely on attachments for relevant content. Information should be placed directly on the Q.wiki page whenever possible.
