In generated modules, elements are deleted via the workflow. All standard modules have a special Deleted status for this purpose, which may have a context-specific name but always carries the same meaning.
How the Deleted status works
The Deleted status is not just another workflow status – it has special properties:
- Elements in this status are no longer visible to regular users in Q.wiki – they don't appear in search results, overview pages, or dialogs.
- Module owners see a separate tab Deleted Elements on the module overview.
Benefits of workflow-based deletion
Implementing deletion through the workflow offers several advantages:
- Deleted elements can be managed within the module (see following sections).
- You can individually configure:
- Which statuses allow content to be deleted
- Who is allowed to perform deletions
- Who receives notifications when an element is deleted
- Element restoration also works through the workflow and provides the same configuration options.
Managing deleted elements
Once there are deleted elements, a Deleted Elements tab appears on the module overview. There you see all deleted elements in a table – with their status before deletion. These elements are only accessible through this table.
In the table you can:
- View deleted elements in detail
- Permanently delete elements (these cannot be restored afterward)
Restoring elements
To restore a deleted element, at least one transition out of the Deleted status must be configured in the workflow.
To restore an element:
- Go to the relevant module and open the Deleted Elements tab.
- Click on the element you want to restore to open its detail view.
- At the bottom of the page, you'll find a button to perform a workflow transition. Use it to move the element to another status and restore it.
The Deleted status is not an archive
